Define the tourism project
Arun Valley Concern Center would like to support tourism efforts throughout the Sankhuwashbha district of Nepal and draw more tourists into the region. In order to help us establish a clear direction forward, we need a good project definition.
What do we want to offer in terms of support to existing tourism agencies?
What support can we offer to the local community to allow them to benefit from the tourists that come through the area?
Help Tejanath complete a SWOT analysis
For our project to move forward, we need to first define what resources and barriers exist in order to appropriately plan a way forward.
Tejanath has been working on an initial SWOT analysis for the project and will post it here as a place to start. Please review the proposed project and background information in our village and help us list items to complete the SWOT analysis.

Discuss and research options for income-generating activities
Within the next year, Notre Dame High School hopes to expand it's vocational training program to offer students invaluable job skills training. One of the things that Christopher has done is conduct an extensive survey of the local community and community needs. There has been some previous discussion about exploring options such as establishing a piggery, planting a garden at the school to support the food requirements of the students while teaching agriculture skills, etc.
Mosquito nets for the new dormitories
At the present time, there are 7 students at Notre Dame High School sick from Malaria. Last week, there were 10 students sick with Malaria. It is the rainy season in Masaka and they fully expect that Malaria cases will rise.
In order to combat Malaria, they would like to utilize mosquito nets in the new dormitories, but not all students or teachers can afford to purchase them. In Uganda, a treated mosquito net can cost Ug shs 15000, and an untreated one costs around Ug shs 10000.
Research and Identify Volunteer Organizations
Many people who travel to Nepal to volunteer also go trekking. For this task, we would like to research and again develop a database of volunteer organizations who place volunteers in Nepal many times to help in the schools. This research will be used to reach out and establish relationships with organizations who may be interested in learning more about the Sankhuwasabha district and all it has to offer those who come to visit.
Research and Create a Database-Trekking Agencies
A large part of our project will revolve around marketing all that the Sankhuwasabha district has to offer. For this task, we are looking for volunteers to help us research and develop a database of trekking agencies located in Kathmandu and also around the world.
RESEARCH-options for improving the toilet facilities at the school
The present toilet facilities at the school are not sufficient. For this task, we are looking for volunteers to research different options for construction of toilets in developing countries to improve the overall sanitation issues around the school. Min will be hopefully able to take some pictures of the existing conditions on his upcoming trip to help better define the present situation as well.
